During Import, Organizer performs error checking and displays messages to help you resolve any errors. Mapping errors, required attributes, and other import errors show in the Inspection Panel. You can click for specific details on each error, if any are found. After resolving the errors in your CSV file, you can restart the import. This article outlines some of the most frequent import errors.
Upload and Configure
If an error occurs during the “Upload and configure” step of Import, the progress bar will stop moving. It will turn red and the “Uploading…” header will change to “Upload error.“
There are a few possible causes of an upload error:
- File type: The file must be a CSV (comma-separated values) file. Other file types are not supported.
- File size: The file must be under 500MB. Larger files must be divided and uploaded in separate import sessions. In addition, the file must not be empty.
- File parsability: The data in the file you are using for the import must be parsable. Parsability of the file is determined by whether our system can understand the columns contained in the file. Duplicated column names, even with different capitalizations, will cause an upload error. If you have questions or need help, reach out to Support.
If you encounter the "Upload error" in the import progress bar, follow these steps:
- Exit the Import.
- Address the cause of the error within your CSV file.
- Save the file, and then reattempt the upload.
Mapping
Once you have made a selection in the Destination column, the import system performs an inspection of a limited number of rows to compare information about the source data to the rules for the destination selected. If an error is found, the indicator in the Status column will change from “Inspecting” to “X Errors,” in which X is the number of profiles that contain an error in the column you have mapped.
There are a few possible causes of a mapping error:
- Incompatible Data Type: If the data within a column in the uploaded CSV source file does not match the data type or allowed values of the destination attribute in Organizer, there will be errors. For example, if the destination attribute is an integer (the data type), such as Election Year, but there are five data records in the source file that contain letters, there will be five errors.
-
Unsupported Value: If the destination attribute requires a specific set of accepted values, such as Gender or Ethnicity, and the data provided in the Source column does not match those values, it will result in an error. Click View Error Details to view the unsupported values found during inspection.
If you encounter the "Upload error" in the import progress bar, choose whether to proceed through to the Import step with these errors or to fix them.
- Proceed with errors: If you proceed through to the Import step with errors, columns that include one or more errors will not be included in the import.
- Fix errors: If you choose to fix the errors, exit the import process, make the adjustments to your CSV file, and restart.
Import Status
After the import is initiated the status of the import will show as “Importing” in the import table. During the Import step, the import system checks all rows of the file. Once the import process is complete, the Import will display either the “Completed” status or the “Failed” status. If the import fails, please reach out to Support.
