Each of your Canvassing Efforts require Turfs with assigned Canvassers. We recommend using the Irregular Shape tool, as it allows you to cut around larger streets and avoid creating unwalkable Turfs. Please note that you cannot create overlapping Turfs.
Turf Cutting Tools
There are several different Turf cutting tools available for you to use. They display as icons, as shown in the following image.
- Hand Tool: The Hand tool gives you the ability to navigate the map and adjust the boundaries of previously created Turfs. After selecting the Hand Tool, click hold and drag to move the map. By selecting an already drawn Turf, you can select a dot to adjust the lines of the Turf to include or exclude specific doors.
- Irregular Shape Tool: The Irregular Shape tool allows you to create point-to-point Turf boundaries. After selecting the Irregular Shape Tool, single tap or click on the map. Begin to draw the shape. Tap or click to change direction of your line. To finish your shape, tap or click on the shape's starting point. Your finished turf will display a number associated with that turf. Each turf and the number of doors and people in it appear under Turf Assignment.
- Square Tool: This option gives you the ability to create square-shaped Turfs. The Square tool allows you to draw a rectangle shape that creates Turf boundaries. After selecting the Square Tool, tap or click on the map. Click again and drag begin to draw the shape. Release to finish your square shape. Your finished turf will display a number associated with that turf. Each turf and the number of doors and people in it appear under Turf Assignment.
When you are finished drafting your Turf, be sure to Save.
Turf Limits
Turf limits help your Canvassing Effort have optimum performance.
- Turfs can include up to 250 doors.
- Turfs can include a maximum of five Canvassers.
- There is no limit to how many turfs you can create for an effort.
Assign Canvassers
After creating the Turfs for your effort, you can assign them to Canvassers who are either regular “Users” in your Account, or you can assign them to volunteers who use a passphrase for access on a one-time basis. See details in Add Canvassers to the Mobile App.
To add a turf to a user in your account, select the Canvassers tab located to the left of the map. For each user, add the turf they are assigned.
Actions you may take before launch include:
- You can unassign Canvassers from Turfs by clicking the X on the Turf icon under the Canvasser’s name.
- You can unassign all the Turfs assigned to a Canvasser by selecting the unlink button.
- You can delete Turfs in the table next to the Turfs.
- You can see the counts of profiles by Turf in the Turfs view.
Actions you make take after launch include:
- You can unassign and reassign a Canvasser.
- You can add Turfs.
