Custom Attributes are data fields you can add to the profiles in your Organizer Universe. They allow you to store additional data elements for which there is no pre-built field. Custom attributes are viewable in My Universe under Custom Attributes and you can filter by custom attribute to create a segment or list. You can add Custom Attributes to Scripts to view and edit during Canvassing and Phone Bank outreach efforts. You can also edit the value of existing single/multi-select Custom Attributes during Import. And, you can Archive Custom Attributes you are no longer using.
To Create Custom Attributes (outside of the import process), follow these steps:
- Go to My Universe > Custom Attributes and click Create New.
-
Complete the following fields:
- Attribute Name (required)
- Attribute Category (optional)
- Data Type (required; from the dropdown, select Text, Number, Score, Date, Single-Select, Multi-Select, or Tag; see best practices in Custom Attributes Overview)
- Please Note: Data type cannot be changed after a Custom Attribute is created.
- Description (optional)- Use a description to include the reason or purpose for the custom attribute or the data source
- Options (for single and multi-select)- include the potential values for the attribute up to 50 characters. Note, these are case-sensitive and avoid spaces before or after the text.
- Click Create.
To Edit Custom Attributes, follow these steps:
- Go to My Universe > Custom Attributes
- Locate the Custom Attribute and Select the Actions Menu and Edit.
- You will be made aware if this custom attribute is in an published script which may lead to additional steps to update the affected scripts.
-
If applicable, update the following fields:
- Attribute Name
- Attribute Category
- Description
- Options
- Select Update
-
You will be made aware which scripts have been affected by your change, after you update.
The scripts page will also indicate scripts which need review with an “out of date” tag.
- Bulk Edit Values: For bulk updates to the values of existing single/multi-select Custom Attributes, reach out to Support.
If you are no longer actively using a Custom Attribute, you can Archive it. Archiving a Custom attribute removes the ability to import new data, export data, and filter on the attribute. You will still be able to see the archived Custom Attribute values when viewing existing communities and profiles with that attribute. Once you have archived a Custom Attribute, you cannot unarchive it. At this time, you cannot fully remove/delete Custom Attributes.
To Archive Custom Attributes, follow these steps:
- Go to My Universe > Custom Attributes
- Locate the Custom Attribute and select the Actions Menu and Archive
