Custom Attributes are data fields you can add to the profiles in your Organizer Universe. They allow you to store additional data elements for which there is no pre-built field. For example, you can use Custom Attributes to indicate support levels, the completion of an event or program, the individual’s relationship or role within your organization, communication preferences, or other data points to the profiles in your Organizer account. Actions you can take with Custom Attributes are outlined in Create and Manage Custom Attributes.
You can filter for Custom Attributes when creating a segment or list for outreach or further analysis. For example, if you created a Custom Attribute to identify parents of a school, you can filter to create a segment containing only those parents and use that segment for email outreach.
You can update Custom Attributes by Importing profile data or by including a custom attribute in a script for outreach efforts such as Phone Banking and Canvassing.
Best practices for Custom Attribute import values, by type, are:
- Tag = True/False
- Number = must be a POSITIVE integer (i.e., a whole number, no decimals)
- Score = must be a POSITIVE number (i.e., we accept decimals)
- Text = open text up to 200 characters (open text values are not duplicated so each value is considered “unique” even if the value is the same for different profiles; i.e., adding “Yes” to profile A and “Yes” to profile B still results in unique values)
- Datetime = should be in YYYY-MM-DD format
- Single-Select = open text up to 50 characters avoid spaces before or after the text; only one value of a single select is shown in the profile at a time
-
Multi-Select = open text up to 50 characters avoid spaces before or after the text; allows multiple values to be shown on a profile at a time
The columns in the Custom Attributes list view are:
- Attribute: Name of the Custom Attribute
- Description: Description of the attribute (optional)
- Organization: Name of the account that created the Custom Attribute
- Category: A group to which several related Custom Attributes may belong (optional)
-
Type: Data type, not editable; choose from the following data types:
- Text: Allows you to type a note about an individual with a free-form text option
- Number: Allows you to add a number range to a segment on different ranges
- Score: Allows you to add a number range to any profile
- Datetime: Allows you to add a time and date to timestamp your audience
- Single-Select: Allows you to set one value for a single profile
- Multi-Select: Allows you to set more than one value to a single profile
- Tag: Allows you to set one singular value to your entire dataset; This is added as a value of Tag is true or false.
