Community Builder is one of the most foundational features in Organizer and will be central to your work in the platform.
You can use the filtering function to create Segments and Lists of profiles within My Universe > Community Builder. You can filter to include profiles, and you can filter to exclude profiles. Segments and Lists are the two types of Communities that you can create.
- Segments are dynamic sets of profiles. Segments are defined by attribute filters. The profiles in a Segment will change (i.e., the segment will expand to include new profiles or shrink to exclude profiles) based on changes to the filtered, underlying data upon which the Segment is based. For example, suppose you create a Segment by applying a filter to only include profiles with usable addresses. Later, you import profiles marked with usable addresses; the previously created Segment will grow to include the newly imported profiles. Segments do not have a size limit.
- Lists are static sets of profiles. Lists are initially defined by attribute filters applied at a given time. The profiles included in a List at the time of creation will not change regardless of changes to the underlying data within the profiles. Lists only change when a user takes direct action to do so, such as by adding or removing individual Profiles. Lists are limited to 500,000 profiles.
Your organization can use Community Builder in various ways:
- Use Community Builder to research the composition of the profiles in their account across many different attributes, such as geography, model score thresholds, demographic characteristics, custom attributes, and more. This research can inform budget considerations and strategy for campaigns.
- Use Community Builder to plan and configure the outreach efforts associated with campaign work. By filtering on numerous attributes spanning all categories, members can adhere to budget constraints and maximize the likelihood of successful outreach.
- Use Community Builder as an exploratory tool for planning and research and to understand what profile data is in their Organizer account. Staff with the appropriate permissions can also explore the profiles in an account. When combined with data visualization features, like the Overview Tab, staff and volunteer users can better understand the Communities they are working in.
See Create a Community (List/Segment) for instructions on using Community Builder.
