Within My Universe > Communities, all default roles can view and manage all of the Communities in your organization – whether created by you or another user. Communities may be presented as Segments or as Lists. This aggregate view lets you quickly find Communities and makes it easy to take direct action on Segments and Lists or navigate to other relevant functions in the Organizer platform.
Segments vs. Lists
When working with Communities, it is essential to understand the difference between Segments and Lists.
- A segment is defined by a set of criteria and is dynamic because the number of profiles can change over time as profiles are changed, added, or removed from your organization. Learn more in Segments and Lists Overview.
- A list is a static set of profiles which you can create by selecting criteria or by copying or merging existing Communities. Learn more in Segments and Lists Overview.
Use Cases
Communities can be used for the following purposes:
- Research and Analytics: You can use Communities to group profiles so their attribute data can be analyzed within Organizer or externally via Export. Within Organizer, you can view numeric breakdowns of the profiles in a Community by various demographic and civic attributes in the Overview tab of the specific Community. You can use Export to transfer a Community into your other systems for analysis outside of Organizer.
- Planning and Outreach: Communities are the basis for designing Outreach Efforts. To identify and reach out to the right group of people within your organization, you can create Communities before executing outreach work. When planning, it is also important to ensure you add a description to the Community. This is important because the number of profiles may affect Outreach budgets and staff capacity planning. Additionally, the composition of the profiles within the Community, such as geographic or demographic attributes, may impact how your organization communicates with each Community.
Compliance
When creating communities for outreach, you must ensure that you adhere to all applicable legal, regulatory, and government requirements such as the CAN-SPAM Act, the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), 10DLC, CCPA, STIR/SHAKEN, and other applicable local, regional, and national regulations. See guidance in Phone Banking Deliverability and Best Practices and Email Deliverability and Sender Best Practices.
