This is a step-by-step guide on how to set up and effectively use Organizer’s mobile app for your canvassing activities. If you have trouble with any of these steps, reach out to your Canvassing admin or contact Support for help.
1. Download the Mobile App and Adjust Your Phone Settings
Download the mobile app following the instructions in Install and Set Up, and then configure your phone following the instructions in Optimal Phone Settings.
2. Log In to the App
There are two ways to log in to the mobile app for Canvassing. Follow the option that is most appropriate for you, depending on the instructions you’ve received from your Canvassing admin.
Option 1: Log in to the app using the credentials from your Organizer account. (This is the account information you had set up when you received your “Welcome to Organizer!” email.) Ensure you have an internet connection when first accessing the app.
Option 2: Log in to the app with the passphrase your Canvassing admin provided to you, and then enter your first and last name. You have the option to add your phone number.
3. Download Your Assigned Turf
Once logged in, your assigned turf (or area) will be displayed. Click on the turf to download the data. This requires an internet connection.
4. View and Access Households
After downloading, open your turf to view it as a map. A list of households in your assigned area is accessible by swiping up the bottom drawer.
5. Turf Directions
On the Map or List view, a new directions icon will appear that will allow you to select an address from your turf, which will then bring you to your phone's preferred map application, where you can navigate to that selected address
6. Begin Canvassing
- Select a household by tapping its location dot on the map.
- Tap on the resident’s name to bring up the canvassing script and begin your conversation.
- If necessary, view the resident’s profile for more details by selecting "View Profile."
- If you've been asked to verify contact information when you are viewing a profile, you can edit the information. Select Edit and click on information to edit. Scroll down to the bottom of the profile to save your edits.
- NEW in Version 1.7 With an active data connection you can view a resident's 10 most recent interactions including email opens, delivered text messages, phone bank calls, and past canvass visits to have more informed, personalized conversations knowing the person's history of interactions with the Organization.
- If you are working offline or do not have a data connection, you may not be able to see this information. Or the information might be out of date.
7. Submit Results for Conversations
Follow the script in the app to record your interactions. Once complete, submit the survey results.
If you cannot conduct a survey at one of your assigned households, submit the appropriate disposition to indicate whether or not the individual or household should be revisited again during this canvassing effort.
8. Handle Missed Conversations
If you are unable to speak with someone at one of your assigned households, tap "Cannot Survey" and submit the appropriate disposition to indicate whether or not the individual or household should be revisited again during this canvassing effort. See details in Submit Dispositions.
9. Add New People
If you speak with someone not listed, you can add their information by selecting "Add New Person" and entering their details.
10. Track Your Progress
Track your progress by tapping "Show Results," which displays the number of households and individuals reached and other key metrics.
11. Offline Canvassing
The app can be used without an internet connection once your turf has been downloaded, but when you do this your activity (and safety) will not be viewable to your admin until you reconnect to the internet or sync your data by tapping the upload icon.
